History of Springwood
Springwood is a thriving residential hub located in Logan City south of the Queensland capital of Brisbane.
The name of the area was coined in the 1950s, as it was scrubland populated by wild brumbies with a spring in the middle.
The Brisbane Transportation Study was released in 1965, including the proposal for a freeway connecting Brisbane with the Pacific Highway at Eight Mile Plains. The freeway was expected to be complete in 1970. As part of the South East Freeway, a satellite development was planned for the Springwood area.
The first phase of the project began in November 1968, but construction progressed more slowly than anticipated. It wasn’t until 1970 that the first phase, comprising Captain Cook Bridge (Gardens Point), was complete.
Twenty years after the first land sale, the final section of the motorway was constructed, connecting Springwood to the rest of Logan.

Springwood Attractions
Springwood is an equal mix of residential properties and local businesses. It is also home to the Springwood Conservation Park. This popular attraction is visited by thousands each year.
Within this 36-hectare park in Springwood, you will find a large variety of birds, as well as koalas, water dragons and swamp wallabies.
You can explore the unique rock formations, gorge, cliffs, cave and eucalypt forest with a picnic and graded walking tracks. To enjoy the spectacular views of Logan, it is worth climbing to the lookout. Wildflowers bloom late in winter and early in spring and the gullies will be dotted with seasonal waterfalls during the rainy season.
Future Plans For The Springwood Area
Logan City Council has established The Springwood Implementation Plan Fund to deliver key infrastructure projects. This is a bid to establish Springwood as a city in its own right. It draws from the 2009 Greater Springwood Master Plan which outlines growth plans for the region up until 2031.
There are multiple plans in place for pedestrian and pushbike infrastructure in the green spaces in Springwood. There are also plans for amenities and businesses to cater to the growing population.

Schools & Education In Springwood
The suburb itself is home to highly rated public schools, including:
- Springwood State High School
- Springwood Central State School
- Springwood Road State School
- Chatswood Hills State School
It is also centrally located to leading private schools in the Logan region, including:
- John Paul College (Daisy Hill)
- Redeemer Lutheran College (Rochedale) and;
- Calvary Christian College (Carbrook).
It is easy to access all of these schools as well, via the Pacific Motorway, Brisbane to Gold Coast rail line and local buses.

Development Plans
Planning is underway for a $160 million AUD development in Springwood. This project will include the region’s first four-star hotel, as well as a cinema complex. Also planned are a medical centre, gym, serviced apartments, retail space, and residences.
The region will receive a quality development modelled after Fortitude Valley’s Emporium. This ambitious plan has been proposed for the Watland Plaza site in Springwood by Sydney developer Vanguard Pty Ltd.
Public consultation was also held by Logan City Council and the Queensland Government. This public consultation was to garner ideas to shape the region into a dedicated regional hub.
Springwood is one of the fastest-growing centres for commerce, business, and retail in the City of Logan. This is due to its location and suburban population
Springwood is expected to boom with new residential projects and businesses. In turn, these will boost the population and provide jobs for locals.
Experts in the fields of place design, infrastructure policy, urban innovation, and development are discussing how Springwood can become a smart and liveable town in ongoing discussions.

Springwood is a great location for shopping. There are several excellent primary schools and a variety of secondary schools that are easily accessible.
